The mountain

Op 30 augustus vertrekt het negenkoppige team naar Delhi voor de beklimming van de 7075 meter hoge Satopanth. De korte aanloop van drie dagen voert langs de bron van de heilige rivier de Ganges en imposante toppen als Shivling, Bhagirathi's en de Talay Sagar. Rond 7 september verwacht het team aan de voet van de op twee na hoogste top van de Garhwal Himalaya neer te strijken. De markante Satopanth zal via de messcherpe noordoostgraat beklommen worden. De route kent enkele technische passages van steil ijs en een luchtige sneeuwgraat van een kilometer lang. Getracht wordt na de acclimatisatie op de omringende toppen de berg in alpiene stijl te beklimmen.

On 30 August the nine-member team will depart for Delhi to climb the 7075m high Satopanth. A short 3-day approach will lead us along the source of the holy Ganges River and along impressive mountains like the Shivling, Bhagirathi’s and the Talay Sagar. The team expects to set-up base camp around 7 September at the foot of this second highest peak of the Garhwal Himalaya. The remarkable Satopanth will be climbed by the razor sharp North-East ridge. The route contains some technical climbing in steep ice and a very ‘airy’ kilometre-long snow ridge. The goal is to climb the mountain, after acclimatisation on the surrounding mountains, in Alpine style.
